Tenute Rubino Primitivo Punta Aquila 2022

Tenute Rubino’s Primitivo Punta Aquila 2022 is a dry, single-varietal red from the Brindisi area of Salento, capturing the generous character of Apulia with a lively, structured edge. Made from hand-harvested Primitivo and recognised by Bibenda, Veronelli and AIS, it reflects the region’s winemaking traditions through the perspective of a family estate established in the area since 2000.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby red with garnet reflections, the wine opens with an expressive bouquet of cherry in liqueur, blackberry preserve, blueberry and redcurrant. Savoury layers of rhubarb, earth, tobacco, ginger, black pepper and aromatic herbs add complexity.

Production
The Primitivo comes from the Punta Aquila zone near Brindisi, where vineyards sit around 100 metres above sea level in medium-textured soils. Trained on trellises and short-pruned to keep yields controlled, the vines produce concentrated fruit. The grapes are hand-harvested in early September, fermented in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks for around ten days, then left for extended skin maceration and malolactic fermentation. The wine spends five months in steel before further maturation in conical French oak barrels and a period of bottle ageing before release.

Food & Serving
Its bold fruit, firm tannins and savoury notes make it a natural match for grilled or slow-cooked red meats, hearty pasta dishes and mature cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C; a short spell in a decanter can help the wine open up before serving.

Producer
Tenute Rubino is a family-led estate with a close connection to the land of Salento. Since 2000, winemaker Luca Petrelli has drawn on that regional heritage to produce wines that express Apulia’s distinctive character. Punta Aquila has received recognition from Bibenda, Veronelli and AIS.
