Description
Petrus Pomerol 2019 is one of Bordeaux’s most coveted wines, prized for its rarity, depth, and unmistakable elegance. Made almost entirely from Merlot, it represents the refined power and historic prestige that have made Petrus a benchmark for collectors around the world.
Tasting Notes
The wine is expected to show a deep, concentrated ruby color with remarkable clarity and brilliance. Aromatically, Petrus 2019 typically offers intense layers of ripe black cherry, plum, cassis, violets, truffle, and subtle earthy spice, all wrapped in a finely tuned, luxurious profile.
On the palate, it is usually full-bodied and seamless, with velvety tannins, impressive density, and exceptional balance between richness and freshness. The finish is long and persistent, suggesting a wine built for extended aging, with the ability to evolve beautifully over decades.
Production
Petrus comes from the Pomerol plateau on Bordeaux’s Right Bank, where clay-rich soils play a defining role in shaping the wine’s texture and power. The estate is known for meticulous vineyard work and highly selective harvesting, ensuring only the best Merlot fruit is used.
Vinification is carried out with great precision to preserve purity, concentration, and aromatic finesse, followed by élevage in oak to add structure and complexity without overpowering the fruit.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with refined dishes such as beef tenderloin, duck breast, lamb with herbs, truffle risotto, or aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant carefully for 1–2 hours if the wine is young, though older bottles may benefit from only a gentle aeration.
Producer
Petrus is one of the most famous names in Bordeaux and the only estate in Pomerol with a reputation that rivals the great classified growths of the Left Bank. Though Pomerol has no official classification, Petrus has long been regarded as the region’s icon, celebrated for its consistency, rarity, and exceptional quality. Its wines are among the most sought-after in the world and have earned legendary status among collectors and critics alike.
