Description

Neumeister Sauvignon Blanc Straden Bio 2022 is an organically crafted, village-level white from some of Straden’s finest slopes in the Vulkanland Steiermark of southern Austria. Sourced from up to 30-year-old vines on limestone-rich, volcanic-influenced soils, it captures both the precision and aromatic flair that make Styrian Sauvignon Blanc so sought after. This cuvée unites top sites such as Klausen, Saziani, Ingerl, Haseldorfer Gebirge and Silberberg, continuing Neumeister’s long-standing reputation for terroir-driven, elegant wines.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Sauvignon Blanc shows a bright, pale straw-yellow color with green reflections, signaling freshness and youth. The nose is inviting and layered: vibrant aromas of gooseberry, cassis leaf and fresh garden herbs are woven together with nuances of red and white pepper, subtle anise, muscat-like floral hints and a fine, stony minerality. On the palate, the wine is precise and well-structured, with a lively acidity that carries clear citrus and green fruit notes – think lime zest, green apple and just-ripe gooseberry – alongside savory, spicy-herbal tones. The texture is refined and silky from the extended lees aging, giving a gentle creaminess that balances its mineral backbone. The finish is long, spicy and refreshing, with lingering hints of cassis, white pepper and cool stone. Enjoyable now for its energy and purity, it will develop further complexity and integrate its spice and minerality beautifully over the next 3–5 years.

Production
The Sauvignon Blanc Straden Bio 2022 is sourced from organically farmed vineyards around the village of Straden, including Klausen, Saziani, Ingerl, Haseldorfer Gebirge and Silberberg. Here, old vines rooted in calcareous sedimentary soils with Sarmatian gravel and sandstone benefit from the volcanic landscape, moderate altitude and cool Styrian climate, which together favor aromatic intensity and crisp acidity. After careful, selective hand harvest, the grapes undergo up to twelve hours of maceration on the skins to enhance aroma and structure. Fermentation is spontaneous with indigenous yeasts in a combination of stainless-steel tanks and large, old wooden casks, preserving both purity and textural depth. The wine then matures for around eight months on the fine lees, adding complexity, finesse and a subtle, creamy mouthfeel.

Food & Serving
This expressive yet finely balanced Sauvignon Blanc is highly versatile at the table. It pairs beautifully with freshwater fish (trout, char), shellfish, ceviche and sushi, as well as goat’s cheese, grilled vegetables, asparagus dishes and herb-driven cuisine. It also suits light poultry, alpine charcuterie and delicately spiced Asian-inspired dishes where its herbal, peppery notes can shine. Serve chilled at around 9–11°C. While decanting is not strictly necessary, a brief aeration in the glass or carafe can help open up the wine’s aromatic complexity, especially in its youth.

A vibrant, biodynamic Sauvignon Blanc from Südsteiermark’s Straden hills, this wine bursts with energy and precision. Zesty lime, grapefruit and green apple meet passion fruit lift, crushed herbs and a striking flinty, volcanic minerality. Crisp acidity drives a linear, focused palate with tension, clarity and a long, mouth-watering finish. Pure, expressive and unmistakably site-driven.
