Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Kékfrankos typically shows a translucent, medium ruby color with garnet hints toward the rim, suggesting both freshness and depth. The nose is vibrant and lifted, with aromas of wild red cherries, sour cherry, cranberry and redcurrant, interwoven with floral notes of dried rose and violets. Subtle earthy tones, dried herbs, and a gentle mineral edge speak clearly of its limestone-rich origins and sensitive cellar work. Peter Wetzer farms his parcel organically in practice—though not certified—eschewing synthetic inputs and focusing on soil health, biodiversity and low yields from these approximately 70-year-old vines. Harvest is done by hand, allowing careful selection of bunches at optimal ripeness. In the cellar, Wetzer follows a low-intervention, natural-wine philosophy: native yeast fermentations, gentle extraction, and minimal handling. The wine is typically aged in neutral wooden vessels to preserve fruit purity and site expression, with little to no fining or filtration and only modest sulfur at bottling, resulting in a wine that feels honest, vibrant and unmasked by heavy winemaking.
