Production
The Löwenbaum parcel lies within the Steffensberg vineyard, a classic steep slope above the Mosel characterized by slate-rich soils that store heat and impart a pronounced mineral backbone to the wines. Weiser-Künstler farm this site organically, working by hand on the vertiginous terraces to ensure careful selection and optimal ripeness. Harvest is done manually, often in multiple passes, to pick only perfectly ripe, healthy Riesling grapes at Spätlese ripeness. In the cellar, the fruit is gently pressed, the must is allowed to ferment slowly—typically with ambient yeasts—in stainless steel or traditional Mosel fuders, and the wine is left on its fine lees to build texture and nuance. Sulfur and intervention are kept to a minimum to let the vineyard character and vintage speak clearly.

This Spätlese is a versatile partner at the table, particularly with dishes that benefit from a touch of sweetness and bright acidity. Think Thai or Vietnamese cuisine with chili and lime, sushi and sashimi, lightly spiced curries, roast duck with fruit glaze, or soft, bloomy-rind cheeses and aged goat’s cheese.
