Description

Weingut Ziereisen’s Weißer Burgunder LÜ 2022 is a Pinot Blanc with unusual depth and character, showing just how expressive the variety can be in the right hands. Old vines on limestone-rich soils, careful low-yield farming and extended lees ageing give it a distinctive combination of richness, freshness and mineral tension.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with ripe pear and yellow apple, joined by hints of nut butter, herbs and chalky stone. On the palate, subtle tobacco, restrained vanilla and honey notes are carried by a supple, creamy texture, with plenty of concentration and a lively, focused finish. Its structure suggests it can develop over the next few years.

Production
The roughly 25-year-old vines grow on Jurassic limestone with a loess topsoil and are farmed organically, though without certification. Yields are reduced, and the grapes are selectively hand-harvested. After a period of skin contact, the fruit is slowly pressed over several hours in an old basket press. The must ferments spontaneously in a large wooden cask, then spends 22 months on fine lees before being bottled unfiltered.

Food & Serving
Try it with roast chicken, seared scallops, creamy mushroom dishes or mature Alpine cheeses—the wine’s generous texture and mineral edge suit both richness and savoury flavours. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A short time in a decanter can help open the aromas, particularly if the wine is young.
