Weingut Ziereisen’s Jaspis Gutedel 10 hoch 4 Alte Reben 2023 shows just how compelling Baden’s traditional Gutedel grape can be in the hands of a meticulous producer. Made from old vines, it combines striking concentration and stony minerality with a remarkably fine, graceful feel—a distinctive expression of a grape long rooted in the region.

Tasting Notes
Pale in appearance, the wine is described by critics as placing flinty, smoky notes at the forefront, with delicate fruit and an elegant, finely textured impression. On the palate, subtle fruit sweetness meets beautifully integrated phenolic grip, intense mineral and saline character, and impressive balance. Despite its concentration, it remains slender and lively, finishing with exceptional length and a persistent stony echo. It is reported to have the potential to develop for at least 20 years.

Food & Serving
Its mineral drive and fine texture should work especially well with freshwater fish, shellfish, roast poultry, or dishes featuring earthy vegetables and herbs. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A brief spell in a decanter may help open the wine, particularly when young; serve with care so its delicate aromas remain fresh.

Weingut Ziereisen is based in Baden, southwestern Germany, where Gutedel—known internationally as Chasselas—has a long regional tradition. The estate has become particularly associated with ambitious, characterful interpretations of the grape, and this old-vine bottling is described by critics as an especially concentrated and age-worthy example.
