Weingut Rings Das Kreuz is the winery’s flagship red blend, bringing the structure and elegance of Bordeaux to Germany’s Pfalz region. The 2022 cuvée combines Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot with the regional variety St. Laurent, creating a powerful, cellar-worthy wine from the renowned Schwarzes Kreuz vineyard in Freinsheim.

Tasting Notes
Deep and richly coloured in the glass, Das Kreuz opens with an intensely spiced bouquet of eucalyptus, mace and black pepper, followed by cedar, dark chocolate, dark nougat and juniper. With time, restrained aromas of dark cherry begin to emerge beneath the savoury, woodland character. On the palate, notes of green walnut and forest floor lead into a firm, concentrated structure. The young tannins are still pronounced and mouth-drying, giving the wine considerable ageing potential as they soften and integrate. Decanting is recommended when drinking it young.

Production
The grapes come from the Schwarzes Kreuz vineyard, regarded as one of the finest sites around Freinsheim in the Pfalz. The blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and St. Laurent reflects the Rings brothers’ Bordeaux-inspired approach while retaining a distinctly regional identity. The wine is matured in a combination of new and used barriques and bottled unfiltered.

Food & Serving
Its firm tannins and layered, savoury profile make Das Kreuz a natural match for roast beef, venison, lamb, beef stew and other richly flavoured dishes. It is best served slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decant for one to two hours before serving to allow the aromas to open and the youthful tannins to become more harmonious.
