Weingut Proidl’s Mercaz Rosé 2024 is a bright, fruit-driven Austrian rosé that balances charm and freshness with impressive ease. Made from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Zweigelt from sustainably farmed vineyards in Kremstal, it offers a more structured, aromatic style than many classic rosés. The name Mercaz suggests a playful, inviting wine — and that character is exactly what you find in the glass.

Tasting Notes
Pale pink in color with a lively, inviting sheen, this rosé opens with expressive aromas of strawberries, ripe nectarine, dark red raspberries, candied rose petals, and blood orange. Subtle floral notes and a hint of confectionery sweetness add extra lift and fragrance. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, supple, and gently off-dry, with just enough acidity to keep the wine feeling fresh and vibrant. Flavors of fully ripe strawberry, red flowers, pomegranate, red currant, violet, and a faint touch of licorice give it both depth and a playful finish. Best enjoyed young for its youthful fruit and energy, though it should hold well over the near term.

Production
The grapes are hand-harvested from selected vineyards around Senftenberg in the Kremstal region of Austria, using sustainably farmed fruit picked from mid-September to mid-October. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot undergo a short maceration of 10–12 hours to build color, texture, and aromatic complexity, while preserving freshness. Fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by three months of maturation before bottling.

Food & Serving
This rosé is a natural match for grilled prawns, summer salads with berries or goat cheese, sushi, roast chicken, and lightly spiced Asian dishes. Serve chilled, ideally around 8–10°C, to highlight its freshness and aromatic detail. Decanting is not necessary; simply pour and enjoy well chilled.
