Description
A fresh, characterful Grüner Veltliner from the Dürnstein basin in Austria’s Wachau, made from vines rooted in free-draining Danube sediments. An early harvest helps keep the alcohol moderate, while the wine’s dry, lively style makes it an inviting introduction to the Pichler-Krutzler collection.
Tasting Notes
The nose brings together fresh, savoury notes of fir greenery, cut grass and bay leaf with green mirabelle plum and plum. Hints of baked apple, delicate hazelnut and smoky minerality add further complexity.
Production
The 10- to 25-year-old vines grow on alluvial soils of sand and gravel deposited by the Danube in the Dürnstein basin. The grapes are harvested early, then undergo a short period of skin contact and spontaneous fermentation before ageing in stainless steel. The wine is made fully dry and is intended to show particularly well in its youth.
Food & Serving
Serve lightly chilled, around 8–10°C, with schnitzel, roast chicken, freshwater fish or seasonal vegetable dishes. Its fresh, savoury character also suits salads and mild cheeses. Decanting is not necessary; open shortly before serving.
