Dönnhoff’s Weißburgunder “S” 2022 is a refined German Pinot Blanc from the Nahe, combining bright freshness with the depth and textural richness associated with the estate’s carefully selected wines. It offers a polished, gastronomic style that shows why the Nahe is regarded as one of Germany’s most versatile wine regions.
Tasting Notes
Bright straw-yellow in appearance, the wine opens with an elegant nose of ripe pear, yellow apple and white flowers, complemented by subtle citrus and mineral notes. On the palate, it is dry, supple and finely balanced, with flavours of orchard fruit, lemon zest and gentle spice. A fresh line of acidity keeps the wine lively, while its rounded texture and restrained complexity give it excellent length.
Enjoyable now for its combination of freshness and texture, the 2022 Weißburgunder “S” should also develop additional nutty and mineral nuances over the next several years when properly stored.
Production
The Nahe’s varied geology, which includes slate, volcanic rock and limestone influences, helps give Dönnhoff wines both mineral character and precise acidity. The grapes are harvested with care to preserve their freshness and aromatic clarity, then gently pressed and fermented under controlled conditions. The wine’s polished texture and layered character reflect thoughtful maturation, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront.
Food & Serving
A versatile partner for food, this Weißburgunder pairs particularly well with roasted poultry, grilled fish, shellfish, creamy pasta, asparagus and mild to medium-aged cheeses. Serve lightly chilled at around 10–12°C. Decanting is not essential, although a short period of aeration in the glass or a brief decant can help reveal its mineral and floral nuances.
Producer
The Dönnhoff estate is one of the Nahe’s most respected family-run wineries, with a history spanning several generations in and around Oberhäuser. Under the guidance of the Dönnhoff family, the estate has earned an international reputation for precise, terroir-driven wines, particularly from Riesling and Burgundy varieties. Its vineyards and meticulous cellar work have made Dönnhoff a benchmark producer for quality in the Nahe.
