Adelina Estate Introspect 2022

Adelina Estate Introspect 2022 is a wonderfully unconventional South Australian red that brings together Shiraz, Grenache, Mataro, Ugni Blanc, Roussanne and Carignan from the same vineyard. Winemaker Col McBryde has crafted a Rhône-inspired blend with real personality, offering something far more intriguing than the usual regional red.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, vivid red-fruit profile with an elegant, almost lifted feel rather than heavy concentration. The nose is layered and distinctive, opening with red cherries, raspberries and orange peel, then moving into notes of honey, white flowers and a touch of fresh earth. The palate is fine-boned and gently dry, with lively acidity keeping the blend fresh and well-balanced. There’s a spicy, savoury edge beneath the fruit that adds depth and interest, while the wine’s lighter frame makes it immediately engaging. It should drink beautifully now, though it will likely continue to develop nuance over the next few years.

Production
Fruit was hand-harvested from a single vineyard in South Australia, then destemmed before fermentation. After fermentation, the wine matured for nine months in large neutral oak casks, allowing the blend’s aromatic complexity and texture to shine without overt oak influence.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine, especially suited to dishes with herbs, spice and savoury depth. Try it with roast chicken, duck, grilled lamb, ratatouille or mushroom-based dishes. Serve slightly cool, around 14–16°C, and decanting for 30 minutes can help open up its aromatics.
