Description
A single-vineyard Pinot Blanc from Mandelberg, a VDP.Grosse Lage in Birkweiler, this Großes Gewächs reflects one of the Pfalz’s distinctive limestone sites. Its sheltered, east-facing position and ancient shell-limestone soils give the wine the potential for poise, mineral character and extended development in bottle.
Production
Mandelberg’s vines grow in lean shell-limestone soil, with roots reaching into rock layers formed around 240 million years ago. The supplied production notes describe selective hand-harvesting, followed by a 24-hour chilled period after crushing and pressing; fermentation and maturation then take place in stainless steel under reductive conditions. These details are provided for the 2023 vintage, so the precise 2024 production choices are not confirmed.
Food & Serving
Try it with roast poultry, grilled white fish, scallops or dishes featuring mushrooms and mild, creamy sauces. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C.
