Weingut Hiedler Grüner Veltliner Thal 2024 comes from one of the estate’s most historic vineyard sites, where the Hiedler family first began growing wine back in 1856. This is a precise, terroir-driven Grüner Veltliner with real character: hand-harvested fruit, old vines, and a singular mineral imprint from sandy, calcareous soils.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, clear profile with vibrant freshness and refined lift. The nose opens with white pear, mango, tea leaves, tobacco leaf, and a subtle flinty edge, giving the wine both brightness and complexity. On the palate, expect ripe apple, pear, gentle spice, and a pronounced mineral backbone that reflects the special Thal terroir. It’s elegant, focused, and layered, with enough structure to age beautifully for at least 10 years.

Production
Thal is Hiedler’s oldest vineyard, planted on sandy soils with a high limestone content and deep-rooted old vines, some up to 80 years of age. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, fully destemmed before pressing, and the wine is matured in stainless steel to preserve purity and precision. Sulfur is not used after pressing, allowing the site and fruit to speak as naturally as possible.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile food wine, ideal with white fish, shellfish, roast chicken, asparagus, vegetable-forward dishes, and lightly spiced Asian cuisine. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is generally not necessary unless you want to give it a little time to open in the glass.
