Description

Weingut Bastian Beny Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature 2022 is a razor‑sharp, terroir‑driven sparkling wine from the loess and limestone slopes of southern Rheinhessen. Crafted as a Blanc de Blancs from Weißburgunder (Pinot Blanc) with a touch of Chardonnay, it shows just how fine and expressive German sparkling wine can be without any dosage. Brut Nature, un‑fined and without added sulfur, it’s a purist’s bubbly that captures the vineyard and the vintage with impressive clarity.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Blanc de Blancs shines a pale straw yellow with silvery highlights and a fine, persistent bead of bubbles. The nose opens with delicate autolytic notes—subtle brioche and fresh pastry—interwoven with yellow orchard fruit: ripe pear, white peach and a hint of golden apple. Lightly nutty nuances, a touch of almond and hazelnut shell, underline the fruit, while a whisper of citrus zest and chalk adds lift and precision. On the palate, the wine is bone dry yet remarkably harmonious, its brisk acidity and ultra‑fine mousse giving structure without harshness. The yellow-fruit profile returns—juicy pear, peach and a hint of Mirabelle—joined by more pronounced nuttiness and a faint herbal note that keeps things savoury and refreshing. The long lees aging brings a creamy texture that plays beautifully against the linear, mineral backbone. Enjoy it now for its energy and tension, or cellar it for 3–5 years to gain additional complexity, nuttier tones and more pronounced brioche character.

Production
The fruit for this Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature comes from vineyards in southern Rheinhessen rooted in a mix of loess and limestone, soils that lend both generosity of fruit and a cool, mineral edge. Hand‑harvested grapes are pressed as whole clusters, and the base wine matures for around ten months in a combination of stainless‑steel tanks and wooden barrels, preserving freshness while adding subtle textural depth. After tirage, the wine undergoes traditional bottle fermentation and then rests on its lees for approximately 18 months before disgorgement. No fining agents or sulfur additions are used, resulting in a crystalline, unadorned expression of site, grape and vintage.

Food & Serving
This Brut Nature is an excellent match for briny, delicately flavoured dishes: think oysters on the half shell, ceviche, sashimi, or simply grilled white fish with lemon and herbs. It also pairs beautifully with soft goat cheese, lightly aged cow’s milk cheeses, and vegetable dishes such as asparagus, artichoke salads or risotto with spring greens. Serve well chilled at 8–10 °C. Decanting is not necessary, but opening the bottle a few minutes before serving or giving it a generous swirl in the glass allows the fine lees notes and nuttier nuances to unfold.
