Description
Walter Scott’s Sojeau Pinot Noir 2022 is a dark, beautifully sculpted Oregon Pinot Noir that balances finesse with real depth and drive. Crafted from a blend of Dijon 115, Pommard, and Wadenswil clones grown on rocky hillside sites in Eola-Amity Hills, it reflects the precision and ambition that have made Walter Scott one of the most respected names in the region.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby hue, signaling a more насыщенный style of Pinot Noir. The nose is expressive and layered, with vibrant aromas of raspberry, blackberry, and cherry, lifted by earthy notes of soil, smoke, and well-integrated oak.
On the palate, the wine carries those dark-fruited tones through to a supple yet energetic finish, adding strawberry and a subtle flinty character along the way. It has the structure to evolve gracefully over the next 10 years, but can already be enjoyed now with a bit of air to open up its full complexity.
Production
Sojeau is sourced from rocky vineyard blocks in Eola-Amity Hills at around 200 meters elevation, where the stony soils and cool Oregon climate help preserve freshness and bring tension to the wine. The blend combines three Pinot Noir clones—Dijon 115, Pommard, and Wadenswil—selected for their complementary aromatic and structural qualities. After harvest, the wine was matured for 12 months in French oak, including 40% new barrels, adding polish, spice, and depth without overwhelming the fruit.
Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir is a natural match for roast duck, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, pork tenderloin, or earthy dishes with truffle and herbs. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 15–17°C, and consider decanting for 30–60 minutes if drinking young to let the aromas fully unfold.
Producer
Walter Scott is a highly regarded Oregon winery founded by husband-and-wife team Ken Pahlow and Erica Landon, with a focus on producing terroir-driven wines of precision and purity. The estate has earned a strong reputation for elegant, site-expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, and has become one of the standout producers in the Willamette Valley.
