Description

Vincent Gaudry’s Sancerre Blanc “Le Tournebride” Bio 2023 is a vibrant, organically farmed expression of Sauvignon Blanc from the heart of the Loire. Crafted from a blend of classic Sancerre terroirs, it offers a beautifully layered, textural white that goes far beyond the stereotype of simple, grassy Sauvignon. As one of the first biodynamic pioneers in Sancerre, Gaudry has turned Le Tournebride into a reference-point wine for authenticity, precision and terroir character.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2023 Le Tournebride typically shows a pale lemon colour with green highlights, reflecting its youth and freshness. The nose is expressive yet refined, weaving together citrus (lemon, grapefruit, blood orange zest) with ripe orchard fruit, hints of white peach and a subtle touch of tropical nuance. Herbal and floral notes—lemon balm, fresh-cut fennel, meadow flowers—sit alongside a gentle, stony minerality that speaks clearly of Sancerre. On the palate, the wine is taut and precise, with a spine of bright, mouth-watering acidity balanced by a surprisingly supple, almost creamy texture from extended lees contact. Flavours of citrus, crunchy pear and stone fruit are layered with delicate herbal tones and an earthy, root-vegetable depth that fans of earlier vintages will recognise—think beets, parsnip and a faint savoury edge that adds intrigue. The finish is long, saline and slightly spicy, with a whisper of sweetness in the fruit kept firmly in check by tension and minerality. Enjoyable now for its youthful energy, the 2023 vintage should evolve gracefully over 5–7 years, gaining more complexity, rounded edges and a deeper expression of its mixed soils.

Production
Le Tournebride is sourced from several classic Sancerre terroirs around Sury-en-Vaux and neighbouring villages, combining caillottes (limestone pebbles for tension and florality), terres blanches (Kimmeridgian clay-limestone for body and depth) and silex (flint for smokiness and mineral drive). The vines are farmed organically and biodynamically, with meticulous attention to soil health: no synthetic chemicals, regular ploughing and natural cover crops to encourage deep root systems and microbial life. Harvesting is done by hand to ensure careful selection of perfectly ripe, healthy grapes. In the cellar, Gaudry works with native yeasts and minimal intervention; the must is gently pressed, then fermented slowly in stainless steel and older neutral vats to preserve purity of fruit. The wine is aged on fine lees for added texture and complexity, with very restrained use of sulphur and no aggressive filtration, allowing the character of the terroir to shine through.

Food & Serving
Le Tournebride is a remarkably food-friendly Sancerre that shines with both simple and more adventurous pairings. Classic Loire matches such as goat’s cheese (Crottin de Chavignol), fresh chèvre tarts and light charcuterie work beautifully, as do oysters, shellfish, grilled white fish, sashimi and ceviche. Its herbal and earthy nuances make it a standout with vegetable-focused dishes: roasted root vegetables, beet salads, fennel gratin, asparagus, artichokes, as well as herb-driven cuisines like modern Nordic or Mediterranean. Serve chilled but not icy—around 9–11 °C—so the aromatics can open up. A light decant of 15–20 minutes, especially in its youth, can help the wine relax and reveal more of its layered fruit and subtle earthiness.

Producer
Based in Sury-en-Vaux, just outside the village of Sancerre, Vincent Gaudry is widely regarded as one of the appellation’s quiet revolutionaries. His family has grown vines in the region for generations, but it was Vincent who turned the domaine into a benchmark for organic and biodynamic viticulture, making him one of the first growers in Sancerre to embrace these methods and achieve biodynamic certification. Working with old vines across some of the area’s best soils, he focuses on low yields, careful handwork and a decidedly non-interventionist approach in the cellar. Gaudry’s wines are prized for their clarity, depth and soulful expression of place, and Le Tournebride has become a go-to bottling for sommeliers and enthusiasts seeking a Sancerre that is both true to its roots and distinctly, unmistakably, Vincent Gaudry.

Sauvignon blanc in its purest form. Le Tournebride from Gaudry has exclusively been aged in stainless steel tanks. It is a fantastic vinification method that suits sauvignon blanc really well, which, with its lean, slender structure, is still full of acidity and aromatic character. Here you get the completely pure taste of sauvignon.
