Description
Vigna 800 Valpolicella Classico Bio “La Cesolina” is a characterful organic red from the historic heart of Valpolicella, crafted from the region’s traditional blend of Corvina, Corvinone, Molinara, and Rondinella. Produced by Gianfranco Elampini at Vigna ‘800, it reflects a hands-on, old-school approach rooted in local heritage and the winemaking traditions passed down through generations.
Tasting Notes
Expect a bright, youthful ruby colour in the glass, with a fresh and inviting aromatic profile. The nose typically leans toward red cherries, ripe berries, violets, and subtle herbal notes, with a lively, clean fragrance that feels unmistakably Venetian in style.
On the palate, Valpolicella Classico is usually medium-bodied, supple, and fruit-forward, with juicy red-berry character, gentle spice, and soft tannins that make it immediately approachable. Its organic farming and traditional grape blend help keep the wine balanced and expressive, while the fresh acidity gives it good drinkability; best enjoyed in its youth, though it can develop added complexity over the next few years.
Production
This wine comes from Valpolicella Classico in Veneto, an area shaped by fertile soils, abundant waterways, and a long agricultural history. The vineyards are worked organically and with a strong respect for local traditions, with harvest and cellar work focused on preserving the natural character of the fruit and the identity of the land.
Food & Serving
A versatile red for the table, it pairs beautifully with pasta dishes, risottos, grilled poultry, roasted vegetables, cured meats, and classic Italian fare. Serve it slightly cool, around 15–18°C, and decanting is generally not necessary, though a short aeration can help open the wine if enjoyed soon after opening.
Producer
Az. Agr. VIGNA ‘800 di Elampini Gianfranco was founded in 2001 in Valpolicella by Gianfranco Elampini, who set out to make authentic wine exclusively from the grapes of his own land. His philosophy is deeply tied to traditional farming and the winemaking methods he learned from his father Gino, making the estate a small but meaningful guardian of the region’s heritage and identity.
