Description

Velich Darscho 2022 is a characterful Burgenland Chardonnay from the Seewinkel, named after the salt lake near the family estate. Made from estate-grown grapes and matured in French barriques, it offers a distinctive expression of the region with the oak lending depth without overshadowing the fruit.

Tasting Notes
The nose brings ripe yellow apple, pear and quince, joined by subtle exotic fruit, toasted sesame, dried herbs and a fine barrique spice. On the palate, the fruit and savoury notes are framed by measured oak. Specific appearance details and guidance on its aging potential are not available.

Production
The Darscho name comes from a salt lake east of Lake Neusiedl, in the Seewinkel north of Apetlon. The Chardonnay comes from Velich vineyard sites, with vines aged between 20 and 40 years. Grapes are selectively hand-harvested, spontaneously fermented and matured in French barriques, which shape the wine without dominating it.

Food & Serving
Enjoy with roast chicken, grilled or pan-seared fish, creamy vegetable dishes, or mushroom risotto. Serve lightly chilled, around 10–12°C. A short time in the glass should allow its aromas to open; decanting is optional.

Producer
Weingut Velich is a long-established family estate in the Seewinkel, where the landscape around Lake Neusiedl shapes its wines. The estate is particularly associated with Chardonnay: Darscho is presented as a regional counterpart to its renowned Tiglat bottling.
