Description

Velenosi’s Ludi is a powerful, polished red from the Offida area of Italy’s Marche region, combining local character with the structure of international varieties. Its distinctive blend and oak-influenced style make it a rewarding choice for lovers of rich, cellar-worthy Italian reds.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby in colour, it opens with aromas of ripe dark fruit, black cherry and plum, alongside hints of spice, herbs and toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated, with layers of fruit, firm but well-integrated tannins and a long, savoury finish. Its structure should allow it to develop gracefully over the next several years when stored well, with the fruit and oak notes gaining further integration.

Production
Made in the Offida area of Marche, Ludi draws on a blend of Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The region’s warm, sunny conditions help produce ripe fruit, while the blend brings together Montepulciano’s local character and the structure of the Bordeaux varieties. The wine is matured in oak, adding depth and spice.

Food & Serving
Serve at around 16–18°C. It pairs well with grilled or roasted red meats, rich pasta dishes, game and mature cheeses. A short decant—about 30–60 minutes—can help open the wine and soften its structure.

Producer
Founded in 1984 by Angela and Ercole Velenosi, the Velenosi winery is based in Ascoli Piceno and has become one of the best-known producers in Marche. The estate is recognised for combining regional grape varieties and traditions with a modern, polished approach to winemaking.
