The wine displays a deep ruby colour with garnet reflections, showing the development expected from a mature, traditionally crafted Spanish red. Its aromatic profile is layered and complex, with ripe dark berries, black cherry and plum alongside cedar, tobacco leaf, leather, dried herbs, sweet spice and subtle balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is full-bodied yet finely balanced, combining concentrated fruit with polished tannins, lively acidity and a long, savoury finish. Notes of dark fruit, cocoa, spice, vanilla and well-integrated oak unfold gradually in the glass. Already highly expressive, it should continue to develop gracefully for many years when stored in a cool, dark cellar.

Produced in Castilla y León from Tempranillo-led vineyards associated with Vega Sicilia, the wine benefits from the region’s continental climate, significant day-to-night temperature variation and gravelly, well-drained soils. Reserva Especial is created through the careful blending of selected vintages, followed by lengthy maturation in a combination of wood and bottle. The supplied release information refers to the 2011 and 2012 vintages together with an additional vintage; the exact blend composition may vary by bottle or market listing.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C after allowing the wine to acclimatise. Decanting for one to two hours is recommended, particularly for younger bottles, both to separate any natural sediment and to allow the wine’s layered aromas to open. Its structure and savoury depth make it an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, game, Iberian ham, mature hard cheeses and richly flavoured mushroom dishes.
