Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial is one of Spain’s most prestigious and distinctive red wines, showcasing the timeless style of a producer that has become synonymous with excellence in Ribera del Duero. The 2024 release is a non-vintage blend of selected wines from the 2010, 2011 and 2012 harvests, combining the character of several outstanding years with the house’s renowned long-aging tradition.

Tasting Notes
Deep ruby to garnet in colour, with the development and complexity expected from a mature Vega Sicilia. The nose is layered and expressive, offering aromas of ripe black fruit, plum, cedar, tobacco, leather, spice and subtle balsamic nuances. On the palate, it is structured yet refined, combining concentrated fruit with polished tannins, lively freshness and a long, savoury finish. It is already rewarding to drink but has the depth and balance to continue developing in bottle for many years when properly stored.

Production
Produced primarily from Tempranillo grown in the continental climate and limestone- and clay-influenced soils of Castilla y León, the wine reflects the region’s marked diurnal temperature variation and naturally low yields. Reserva Especial is created through the careful selection and blending of wines from multiple vintages—in this release, 2010, 2011 and 2012—rather than being tied to a single harvest. Vega Sicilia is known for an exceptionally detailed maturation programme involving extended ageing in wood and bottle, allowing the wine to develop remarkable harmony and complexity before release.

Food & Serving
A natural partner for richly flavoured dishes such as roast lamb, beef tenderloin, game, suckling pig and slow-cooked stews. It also pairs beautifully with mature hard cheeses and refined charcuterie. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16–18°C. Decanting for approximately one to two hours is recommended to open the wine and gently separate any sediment, although older bottles should be handled carefully and tasted periodically after opening.
