Vega Sicilia Reserva Especial Rel. 2023

Vega Sicilia Único Reserva Especial Release 2023 is an iconic Spanish red wine assembled from the outstanding 2009, 2011 and 2012 vintages. Combining the depth of Tempranillo—known locally as Tinto Fino—with the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon, it represents one of Spain’s most prestigious expressions of long-aged, vintage-blended wine.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this mature Ribera del Duero red shows a deep ruby colour with garnet reflections. The nose is complex and layered, revealing ripe dark berries, dried fruit, cedar, tobacco, polished oak and subtle earthy nuances. On the palate, it is powerful yet remarkably balanced, with concentrated fruit, refined tannins, lively acidity and a long, savoury finish shaped by extensive wood ageing. The wine’s maturity brings an impressive harmony between fruit, oak and tertiary character, while its structure allows it to develop further in bottle. It can be enjoyed now after careful decanting, but has the concentration and balance to age gracefully for many years under suitable cellaring conditions.

Production
The grapes are carefully selected in each vintage, with the best fruit from Tempranillo/Tinto Fino and Cabernet Sauvignon harvested by hand and transported in small crates to preserve freshness and prevent damage. At the winery, the grapes are destemmed and macerated at controlled temperatures before fermentation in a combination of wooden and stainless-steel vessels. The wine is then matured for two years in large wooden vats, after which the three vintages are blended. The finished cuvée spends at least 18 months in new oak followed by a further 30 months in used barrels, giving it depth, complexity and exceptionally polished texture.

Food & Serving
Serve at approximately 16–18°C. Decant for one to two hours, particularly when opening a younger bottle, to allow the wine’s aromatic layers to unfold and any sediment to be separated. Its power and refinement make it an excellent match for roast lamb, grilled or braised beef, game, Iberian cured meats and mature hard cheeses.
