Vega Sicilia Alion 2019

Alión 2019 is a polished, modern expression of Ribera del Duero from the Vega Sicilia family, made exclusively from Tinto Fino, the local name for Tempranillo. Sourced from carefully selected parcels and crafted with very low yields, it combines power, precision, and elegance in a style that has made Alión one of Spain’s most sought-after premium reds.

Tasting Notes
Deep, concentrated ruby in the glass, Alión 2019 shows a fragrant nose of ripe black cherries, dark plum, blackberry, and subtle violet notes, framed by spice, fine oak, and a touch of cocoa. On the palate it is dense yet refined, with impressive structure, layered dark fruit, silky tannins, and a long, persistent finish that balances intensity with freshness. The wine has the concentration and balance to develop beautifully over time, with an aging potential of up to 20 years from the vintage. With cellaring, the fruit will become more complex and the oak integration even more seamless, revealing greater depth and nuance.

Production
Alión comes from selected vineyard parcels in Ribera del Duero, Castilla y León, with vines around 25 to 30 years old planted on terroirs well suited to Tempranillo’s concentration and character. Harvesting is carried out earlier than at Vega Sicilia, and the wine is then aged for 16 months in new oak barrels to build structure, polish, and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.

Food & Serving
Alión 2019 pairs wonderfully with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, Iberian pork, game dishes, and rich stews, as well as mature hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C for the best expression, and decant for about 1 to 2 hours if drinking young to allow the wine to fully open and show its layered aromatics.
