Description
Tenuta Sant'Antonio Scaia Rossa Corvina 2023 is a vibrant, modern take on one of Veneto’s most beloved native grapes. Crafted for immediate enjoyment, it showcases Corvina’s pure, juicy fruit with a polished, contemporary style. This wine has quickly become a reference point for everyday premium Italian reds, offering impressive quality and character at a very approachable level.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Scaia Rossa Corvina 2023 shows a bright, medium ruby hue with youthful purple reflections. The nose is immediately inviting, marked by aromas of ripe red cherries, crushed raspberries, and wild strawberries, layered with hints of violets, soft spice, and a touch of dried herbs that nods to its Veneto origins.
On the palate, it is medium-bodied, smooth, and fruit-forward, with supple tannins and a refreshing, well-integrated acidity. Juicy red berry flavors mingle with notes of red plum, a subtle peppery lift, and a whisper of dried cherry that adds depth without heaviness. The finish is clean and lively, making it an excellent “second-glass” wine. While primarily made to be enjoyed young for its fresh, vibrant character, it will drink beautifully over the next 2–3 years.
Production
Scaia Rossa is born in the hills of Veneto, where Corvina thrives in well-drained, calcareous and clay-rich soils that help retain freshness and aromatic intensity. Grapes are typically harvested at optimal ripeness to preserve bright fruit and balanced acidity, often picked in the cooler hours of the day to protect their delicate aromas. In the cellar, Tenuta Sant’Antonio focuses on a clean, contemporary vinification: gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel, and a short maturation designed to emphasize purity of fruit rather than oak influence. The result is a polished, approachable expression of Corvina that still speaks clearly of its regional roots.
Food & Serving
This Corvina is a versatile companion at the table, pairing wonderfully with classic Italian fare such as tomato-based pastas, thin-crust pizza, lasagne, and grilled sausages. It also works well with roasted chicken, charcuterie, and semi-hard cheeses like Asiago or young Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C; a brief 15–20 minute chill in the fridge before opening can enhance its freshness. Decanting is not essential, but opening the bottle 15–20 minutes before serving will allow the fruit and floral notes to fully open up.
Producer
Tenuta Sant’Antonio is a family-run estate based in the heart of Veneto, founded by the four Castagnedi brothers, who brought decades of vineyard experience to their own label in the 1990s. Quickly gaining recognition for their Valpolicella and Soave wines, they helped redefine the region’s reputation by combining meticulous vineyard work with modern, detail-focused winemaking. The Scaia range was created to express a more contemporary, fruit-driven style of local varieties, making high-quality Veneto wines accessible to a wider audience. Today, Tenuta Sant’Antonio is regarded as one of the key quality-driven producers in the area, consistently earning strong praise from wine critics and enthusiasts alike.
