Production
Maternigo is sourced from Tedeschi’s estate vineyards in the Valpolicella area of Veneto, where hillside sites with well-drained calcareous and clay soils, significant diurnal temperature shifts and good exposure help Corvina Veronese, Corvinone and Rondinella ripen slowly and evenly. The grapes are carefully harvested by hand to ensure optimal selection in the vineyard, then brought to the cellar where whole bunches are processed without destemming. A long maceration of around 20 days on the skins extracts color, aroma and structure while preserving freshness. After fermentation, the wine is aged for approximately 14 months in large Slavonian oak casks, which lend gentle vanilla and spice notes without masking the fruit. It then rests an additional 6 months in bottle before release to allow the components to integrate and the texture to harmonize.
