Description

Taittinger Comtes de Champagne 2008 is an iconic Blanc de Blancs, made entirely from Chardonnay grown in five Grand Cru vineyards of the Côte des Blancs. Widely regarded as one of Champagne’s great modern vintages, it brings together remarkable precision, depth and long-term ageing potential.

Tasting Notes
Pale and refined in the glass, it opens with an elegant bouquet of citrus oil and white flowers, layered with brioche, toasted almonds and chalky minerality. The palate is intense yet poised, with crystalline acidity, a creamy texture and a remarkably long, mineral finish. Already rewarding to drink, the 2008 has the structure to evolve over the coming decades when stored well.

Production
Made exclusively from Chardonnay sourced from five Grand Cru sites in the Côte des Blancs, this vintage reflects the region’s chalk-rich character. The wine matured for more than a decade in Taittinger’s historic chalk cellars, developing its complexity while retaining the freshness and precision of the 2008 vintage. Details of the harvest and vinification methods are not provided.

Food & Serving
Serve well chilled, around 8–10°C, with oysters, scallops, simply prepared white fish or delicate poultry. Its brioche and toasted-almond notes also make it a natural match for fine cheeses. Pour carefully into a generous Champagne glass; a brief period in the glass should allow its aromas to unfold, while extended decanting is generally unnecessary.

Producer
Founded in 1932, Taittinger is one of Champagne’s best-known houses, with a distinctive focus on Chardonnay in several of its prestige cuvées. Comtes de Champagne is the house’s celebrated Blanc de Blancs, and its 2008 vintage has earned exceptional reviews from leading international critics.
