Soumah’s Chardonnay Hexham Single Vineyard 2024 is a striking example of cool-climate Australian Chardonnay, offering a style that feels precise, lifted, and refreshingly modern. Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a bright, crystalline pale straw colour with a fresh, energetic sheen. The nose is vibrant and refined, with citrus zest, white stone fruit, orchard blossoms, and a subtle mineral edge, supported by gentle oak complexity. The palate is crisp and finely balanced, with lively acidity, sleek texture, and a clean, saline finish. The fruit is delicate yet expressive, and the restrained use of oak preserves clarity and terroir expression. This is a Chardonnay that should drink beautifully now, while also having the structure to develop additional nuance over the next few years.

Production
The fruit comes from the Hexham single vineyard in the Yarra Valley, a cool-climate site well suited to producing elegant, focused Chardonnay. Soumah works with three Chardonnay clones—95, 76, and Mendoza—chosen to enhance finesse and lift in the finished wine. The wine is matured in oak barrels with only 20% new oak, allowing the fruit and vineyard character to remain front and centre while adding subtle texture and complexity.

Food & Serving
This Chardonnay pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted chicken, pan-seared fish, shellfish, sushi, and creamy pasta dishes. It also works well with soft-rind cheeses and vegetable dishes featuring asparagus, fennel, or fresh herbs. Serve chilled at around 10–12°C, and decanting is not necessary, though a little air can help it open further in the glass.
