Seckinger’s 2021 Riesling comes from Deidesheim Petershöhle, a challenging, long-overlooked site that the family has spent decades bringing back to life. Its cool forest-edge terraces and lean red sandstone give the wine the site’s characteristic lively acidity and a delicate, understated profile.

Production
Petershöhle’s old terraces sit beside the forest, where a cool microclimate and sparse red sandstone contribute to the grapes’ high acidity. The slopes are difficult to work, and the Seckinger family has been restoring these once-neglected vineyards for around 30 years. In the cool 2021 vintage, several days of skin contact helped temper the acidity; the must’s natural acidity also allowed the winemakers to use only minimal sulfur.

Food & Serving
Try it with freshwater fish, shellfish, herb-led dishes or mildly spicy Asian cuisine, where the wine’s fresh acidity can bring lift to the meal. Serve lightly chilled, around 9–11°C. A short time in the glass should be enough to let its restrained aromas emerge; extended decanting is unlikely to be necessary.
