San Felice Vigorello 2021

San Felice Vigorello 2021 is a refined Toscana IGT red that brings together native Pugnitello with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Petit Verdot for a distinctly Tuscan expression. Made by the historic San Felice estate in Castelnuovo Berardenga, it combines elegance, structure, and complexity in a wine that reflects both tradition and innovation.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Vigorello 2021 shows a deep, intense ruby colour. The nose is layered and expressive, with ripe dark berries, plum, violets, and Mediterranean herbs, followed by notes of spice, cedar, and subtle vanilla from oak ageing. On the palate, it is harmonious and well-balanced, with polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, savoury finish that highlights both fruit purity and fine structure. This is a wine with excellent ageing potential, and it should continue to develop beautifully over the next 15 to 20 years, gaining further complexity and softness with time.

Production
Vigorello comes from selected vineyards in Casino, San Vito Leccio, and San Vito Capanna in Toscana, where medium-textured soils are rich in marl-calcareous clay and gravel, shaped by the breakdown of Galestro and Alberese. The vines are trained using Guyot and spur cordon systems, and the grapes are harvested in the first week of September at optimal ripeness. Fermentation takes place with the skins in stainless steel tanks at 30°C for 20 to 25 days, followed by malolactic fermentation. The wine then matures for 18 to 20 months in 225-litre French oak barrels, before bottling and an additional 8 months of bottle ageing.

Food & Serving
This is an excellent match for grilled or roasted red meats, game, braised lamb, and rich Tuscan dishes such as wild boar ragù or bistecca alla Fiorentina. It also pairs well with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to खुल up fully, especially when young.
