Description
San Dionigi Dika Rosato 2024 is a delicately crafted rosé that shines a new light on Corvina, the emblematic grape of Valpolicella. Inspired by the old Greek expression “dícha kardía” – a heart split in two – this wine captures both the soulful depth of Corvina and its unexpectedly vibrant, playful side in pink. It stands out as a thoughtful, terroir-driven rosato that celebrates one of Veneto’s most characterful native grapes in a fresh, modern guise.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, Dika Rosato 2024 shows a luminous, pale cherry-pink hue with subtle copper reflections that hint at gentle skin contact. The nose is enticing and precise, opening with notes of wild strawberries, pomegranate, and redcurrant, layered with hints of blood orange zest, rose petals and a delicate herbal twist reminiscent of fresh thyme.
On the palate, the wine is dry, crisp and finely textured, with juicy red berry fruit at the core – think raspberry, cranberry and a touch of sour cherry – balanced by lively acidity and a mineral backbone that keeps it poised and refreshing. There’s a slight savory edge typical of Corvina that adds interest and length to the finish, which is clean, citrus-tinged and subtly saline. Enjoyed young, it offers its most vibrant fruit and floral nuances, but it can easily evolve for 1–2 years, gaining a bit more softness and complexity while retaining its freshness.
Production
The Corvina grapes for Dika Rosato 2024 are sourced from vineyards in the heart of Veneto’s Valpolicella area, where well-drained, limestone- and clay-rich soils, gentle slopes and a temperate, breezy climate help the fruit ripen slowly while preserving fragrance and acidity. Harvest is carried out selectively, often in the cooler hours of the day to protect aromatics and ensure vibrant, healthy berries. In the cellar, a short, carefully timed period of skin contact gives the wine its delicate color and fine structure before a soft pressing. Fermentation typically takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to preserve purity of fruit and floral notes, followed by a brief maturation on fine lees to add a touch of texture and roundness without compromising the wine’s keen freshness.
Food & Serving
Dika Rosato 2024 is a versatile food wine that pairs beautifully with antipasti, prosciutto and melon, caprese salad, grilled vegetables, seafood risotto, and simple grilled fish or chicken. Its bright acidity and gentle structure also make it an excellent match for pizza with fresh tomatoes and basil, light pasta dishes, sushi, or Mediterranean mezze. Serve well-chilled, ideally at 8–10°C, to highlight its crispness and aromatics; a quick 15–20 minutes in an ice bucket works well. Decanting is not necessary, but pouring it into larger glasses will allow the delicate red-fruit and floral notes to fully open.
