In the glass, the 2019 Quintessa shows a deep, saturated ruby to purple hue, hinting at both concentration and youth. Quintessa is an estate wine from Rutherford in the heart of Napa Valley, where gravelly, alluvial soils, volcanic outcrops and the moderating influence of nearby hillsides create ideal conditions for Bordeaux varieties. The 2019 vintage is a proprietary blend, typically led by Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and often a touch of Carménère, all sourced from the organically and biodynamically farmed Quintessa estate vineyards. Grapes are harvested parcel by parcel at optimal ripeness, mostly by hand, then carefully sorted before fermentation in a combination of stainless steel, concrete and oak to capture both purity of fruit and textural finesse. The wine is aged in high-quality French oak barrels, a significant portion new, which contributes subtle notes of cedar, vanilla and spice while preserving the wine’s fresh, streamlined profile.

This refined Napa red is a natural partner for elegant, richly flavored dishes such as grilled ribeye, rosemary-crusted lamb, slow-braised short ribs, or duck breast with a dark fruit reduction.
