Tasting Notes
In the glass, Quintessa 2019 is a deep, vibrant ruby with an almost opaque core, hinting at its concentration and youth. The nose is open and generous, revealing layers of black cherry and cassis alongside blackcurrant liqueur, framed by floral nuances and subtle notes of tobacco, cedar, vanilla and warm baking spices. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with a streamlined, silky texture that glides across the tongue. Plush dark fruit—black cherry, blackberry and currant—is lifted by fresh acidity and supported by fine, powdery tannins. As it opens, delicate nuances of licorice, cocoa, caramel and sweet spice emerge, leading into a long, soft, dusty finish that is both graceful and persistent. Best enjoyed from 2023 onward, this 2019 has the structure and balance to age beautifully for 12–18 years in standard format, and even longer in this 3L bottle.

Production
Quintessa is an estate-grown wine from Rutherford in Napa Valley, an area celebrated for its benchland vineyards, alluvial fans and well-drained volcanic and gravelly soils overlooking the Napa River. The estate’s varied exposures, gentle slopes and cooling evening breezes create ideal conditions for ripening Bordeaux varieties with both intensity and freshness. Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to capture optimal ripeness and preserve the character of each block. In the cellar, lots are vinified separately using a combination of stainless steel and concrete to maintain purity of fruit and fine-tune texture, before being blended into a harmonious, estate expression. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels, a portion of them new, lending subtle notes of cedar, tobacco and vanilla while keeping the emphasis firmly on balance and elegance.

Food & Serving
This 2019 Quintessa is a natural partner for refined, richly flavored dishes: think dry-aged ribeye, lamb chops with rosemary and garlic, beef tenderloin with red wine reduction, or slow-braised short ribs. It also shines alongside roasted duck, mushroom-based dishes, truffle risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight its aromatics and silky texture. Given both the structure of the wine and the 3L format, decanting for 1.5–2 hours is recommended in its youth to allow the bouquet to fully unfold and the tannins to soften.
