Description
Roagna Barbaresco Asili Vecchie Viti 2020 is a deeply rooted expression of Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s most coveted sites. Sourced from old vines in the prestigious Asili cru, it combines finesse, structure, and remarkable site transparency, reflecting Roagna’s uncompromising approach to traditional Piedmontese winemaking.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a clear garnet hue with a luminous, translucent core that is classic for Nebbiolo. The nose is layered and refined, with aromas of red cherry, rose petal, dried herbs, anise, and subtle earthy nuances, all framed by a quiet mineral line.
On the palate, the wine is precise and elegant, with finely grained tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, savory finish. The old vines lend depth and concentration without excess weight, and while it can be approached young with patience, it is built to evolve beautifully over many years in bottle.
Production
This wine comes from the Asili cru in Barbaresco, a revered hillside site known for producing wines of perfume, balance, and elegance. Roagna works with old vines and follows a traditional, low-intervention philosophy, emphasizing long maceration, careful extraction, and aging in large oak casks to preserve the character of the vineyard rather than the imprint of the cellar.
Food & Serving
This Barbaresco is an excellent match for truffle risotto, braised veal, roast game birds, mushroom dishes, and aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16-18°C, and decant for at least an hour when young to help the aromatics open and the tannins soften.
Producer
Roagna is one of Piedmont’s most respected traditional producers, known for crafting wines of purity, depth, and long aging potential. Based in the Langhe, the estate has built a strong reputation for its meticulous work in historic vineyard sites and for producing some of the region’s most refined and terroir-driven Nebbiolo wines.
