Tasting Notes
The wine pours a vibrant, translucent ruby and immediately feels elegant rather than heavy. Aromas open with fresh raspberry and strawberry, then unfold into mushroom, sandalwood, mint, rose petals, and a subtle touch of clove. On the palate, it is concentrated yet lively, with red cherry, cola, orange peel, and a faint Oolong tea character giving the wine both lift and depth. The balance is especially impressive, with fine tannins and a fresh, composed profile that makes it enjoyable now but clearly capable of gaining further nuance over the next few years. This is a Pinot Noir that offers immediate charm while still rewarding patience.

Production
Summa Vineyard’s mature vines and increasingly exacting vineyard work are central to the wine’s success, allowing the site’s terroir to speak with greater clarity. Thomas Rivers Brown follows a Burgundy model of production, harvesting early to preserve freshness and terroir expression, while a small portion of whole clusters is included at pressing. The wine is then matured in oak barrels with only 20% new wood, ensuring that the oak supports rather than dominates the fruit.

This Pinot Noir is a natural match for duck, roast chicken, herb-crusted salmon, mushroom dishes, veal, or simply grilled salmon with earthy sides. Serve it slightly cool, ideally around 14–16°C, and consider a brief decant if opening it young to help the aromatics unwind.
