Rivers-Marie Joy Road Pinot Noir 2022

Rivers-Marie Joy Road Pinot Noir 2022 is the first Pinot Noir release from this special Sonoma Coast site, crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown, who has worked with the vineyard’s Chardonnay since 2013 and knows the parcel intimately. Sourced from a sandy, coastal-influenced vineyard and vinified with a meticulous block-by-block approach, it offers a beautifully pure expression of Pinot Noir with both precision and charm.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir shows bright, lifted freshness with a refined ruby hue. The nose opens with red cherry, strawberry, white flowers, sandalwood, black pepper, and a delicate touch of mint. On the palate, it is driven by red berry fruit, especially cherry and cranberry, with a vibrant, elegant structure that gives the wine real energy and poise. It is already highly appealing, but its balance and detail suggest it will continue to gain complexity with a few years in bottle.

Production
Joy Road Vineyard lies in Sonoma near the coast, where cool maritime conditions help preserve freshness and aromatic finesse. The vineyard’s very sandy soils add lift and definition to the wine, while the fruit is divided across eight separate blocks and fermented individually to capture each site’s distinct character before blending.

Food & Serving
This Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roast duck, salmon, mushroom risotto, grilled quail, or herb-roasted chicken. Serve slightly chilled at around 15–16°C, and decanting is optional but can help open the wine if enjoyed young.
