Description

Ricasoli 1141 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledilà 2021 is a single-vineyard, 100% Sangiovese that captures the purest expression of Gaiole’s historic terroir. This Gran Selezione stands out for its layered structure, precision, and a distinctly modern sense of elegance. Sourced from the prized Colledilà cru, a historic parcel recorded for centuries as part of the Brolio estate, it represents the pinnacle of Ricasoli’s research into Sangiovese and Chianti Classico’s finest soils.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2021 Colledilà shows a deep, vibrant ruby red hue with youthful brightness at the rim, hinting at both concentration and freshness. The nose opens with pure, focused aromas of ripe red cherries, wild berries, and pomegranate, followed by violet, blood orange zest, and subtle notes of Mediterranean herbs, graphite, and refined oak spice. On the palate, this is a finely etched, vertical Sangiovese: silky yet firmly structured, with taut, polished tannins and a precise acid line that keeps everything lifted and energetic. Flavours of sour cherry, red currant, and raspberry are layered with hints of tobacco leaf, licorice, and a delicate mineral saltiness that reflects its specific soils. The finish is long, clean, and savoury, suggesting excellent aging potential. Well-cellared bottles of the 2021 vintage should evolve beautifully over 10–15 years, gaining complexity in spice and truffle notes while retaining their core of red fruit.

Production
Colledilà is a small, rigorously selected cru within the Brolio estate in Gaiole in Chianti, set in the hilly heart of Tuscany. The vineyard’s particular mix of rocky, well-drained soils and altitude provides both concentration and finesse, allowing Sangiovese to ripen slowly while preserving aromatic detail and natural acidity. Grapes are harvested by hand, parcel by parcel, to ensure only perfectly ripe bunches are brought to the cellar. Ricasoli’s long-term research into original Sangiovese clones and micro-terroirs is at the core of this wine: each plot is vinified separately, typically in temperature-controlled tanks, with careful extraction to emphasize elegance over power. Aging takes place in carefully chosen oak (often a mix of tonneaux and/or barriques) to sculpt the tannins and add complexity without overshadowing the fruit, resulting in a refined, site-driven Gran Selezione.

Food & Serving
This Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is a natural match for classic Tuscan cuisine and refined meat dishes. Think bistecca alla fiorentina, lamb chops with rosemary, slow-braised beef or wild boar ragù, as well as truffle pasta, mushroom risotto, and aged Tuscan pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C to showcase its aromatics and structure. Young vintages like the 2021 benefit from 1–2 hours in a decanter to soften the tannins and allow the full complexity of the Colledilà cru to emerge.

Producer
Ricasoli 1141 is one of Italy’s most historic wine estates, with roots at Castello di Brolio in Chianti Classico dating back nearly nine centuries. Widely regarded as a key reference point for the region, the Ricasoli family has played an important role in defining the identity and style of Chianti over generations. In recent decades, Barone Ricasoli has led pioneering research into Sangiovese clones and the detailed mapping of soils across the estate, elevating quality and sharpening the expression of individual crus such as Colledilà. Today, Ricasoli 1141 is celebrated as a benchmark producer in Tuscany, consistently earning critical acclaim for its terroir-driven, elegant and age-worthy wines.
