The 2022 vintage also stands out for the care taken in the cellar, with rigorous sorting and gentle handling used to preserve balance in a challenging year.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color that hints at its concentration. The nose opens with black raspberry, mulberry, and cherry liqueur, layered with floral and savory accents of lavender, wild sage, and anise. The palate is medium to full-bodied, with bright, crisp fruit framed by firm, polished tannins and a long, peppery finish. Despite the wine’s intensity, it stays well balanced and fresh, and it has excellent aging potential through 2040, with drinking starting to show beautifully from 2025 onward.

Production
The Tempest 2022 is blended from 67% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc, drawn from select parcels in Blair, Orchard, Farella, and Fortuna, along with Realm’s own Estate Vineyard in Stags Leap District. The vintage was marked by a late-September heat wave, which demanded exceptional vineyard selection and precision in the winery. Up to 30% of the fruit was sorted out to maintain quality, while cool fermentations and gentle extraction were used to preserve freshness, structure, and harmony.

Food & Serving
This is a versatile but serious red that pairs well with roast lamb, grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, duck breast, and mushroom-based dishes. It also works beautifully with aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and consider decanting for 1–2 hours if opening young, especially to allow the aromatics and tannins to open fully.
