Realm Moonracer 2022

Realm Moonracer 2022 is a striking Bordeaux-inspired red from Realm’s own Wappo Hill site in Stag’s Leap District, where meticulous vineyard selection and expert blending come together in a wine of real depth and finesse. Named after the native Wappo people and their moonlit hillside races, it carries both a sense of place and a memorable backstory, while showcasing the precision and ambition for which Realm is known.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, Moonracer shows a deep, saturated purple hue that hints at its concentration and richness. The nose is generous and expressive, opening with kirsch, spring flowers, espresso, black licorice, and a subtle paprika note. The palate is plush yet poised, with a seamless wave of cherry, baked strawberry, orange blossom, cacao nib, pencil lead, fresh leather, and tobacco. It has impressive mouthfeel and elegance, with the structure to develop beautifully over the next 15 to 20 years.

Production
Moonracer is sourced from Realm’s Wappo Hill vineyard in the Stag’s Leap District, where different soil types and sun exposures are used to build complexity and balance. The blend is led by 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, supported by Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, and crafted by winemaker Benoit Touquette to emphasize both power and refinement.

Food & Serving
This is a wine that pairs beautifully with premium beef, lamb, venison, duck breast, or richly flavored mushroom dishes, as well as aged hard cheeses. Serve at around 16–18°C, and if opening now, decant for about an hour to allow the aromatics and texture to fully open up.
