Realm Houyi Vineyard 2022 is a striking single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon from one of the most exciting sites in Pritchard Hill. Crafted from fruit grown high above the fog line on volcanic soils, it delivers the kind of depth, purity, and polish that has made Realm a benchmark for modern Napa Valley reds.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it shows a deep, dark color that hints at its concentration and intensity. The nose is layered and expressive, unfolding with blueberries, plums, pencil lead, lavender, elderflower, and a touch of peppercorn. On the palate, it is powerful and richly textured, moving into dark cherry, boysenberry, chocolate, mocha, grilled spice, and fresh leather, all carried by impressive structure and complexity. This is a wine with serious aging potential and should continue to evolve beautifully for two decades or more. Its balance of ripeness, freshness, and finely judged oak gives it both immediate appeal and long-term promise, making it a standout for collectors who appreciate Cabernet Sauvignon with depth and precision.

Production
Houyi Vineyard sits at roughly 500 meters in elevation on the volcanic slopes of Pritchard Hill, where the vines benefit from morning sun, cooler temperatures, and the influence of the fog line. The site’s rocky volcanic subsoil encourages the vines to root deeply, helping produce concentrated, site-driven fruit. Realm works with 100% Cabernet Sauvignon here, and winemaker Benoit Touquette typically ages the wine in as much as 85% new French oak to build texture, complexity, and aromatic lift.

Food & Serving
This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs beautifully with richly flavored dishes such as dry-aged ribeye, grilled lamb, braised short ribs, venison, or hearty mushroom dishes. Serve at around 16–18°C and consider decanting for 1–2 hours to allow the wine to open fully and soften its tannins.

Its search for top-tier Cabernet Sauvignon led it to Houyi Vineyard in 2012, following recommendations from Brad Grimes of Abreu Vineyards and Sam Kaplan of Arkenstone.
