Description
Poderi Marcarini Barolo DOCG La Serra 2022 is a beautifully terroir-driven Barolo from one of La Morra’s most respected single vineyards. Made from 100% Nebbiolo, it combines the finesse and perfume that La Serra is known for with the depth and structure that make Barolo one of Italy’s most iconic wines.
Tasting Notes
In the glass, the wine shows a classic garnet-red hue with an elegant, almost lifted aromatic profile. Expect rose petals, violets, red cherry, raspberry and dried herbs, layered with tobacco, liquorice, spice and a subtle earthy note of forest floor.
The palate is complex and finely balanced, with fresh acidity, silky yet present tannins, and a long, mineral-driven finish. The 2022 vintage brings approachable fruit and harmony, while the wine still has the structure to develop beautifully in bottle over the coming years.
Production
La Serra is a historic cru in La Morra, planted on southeast-facing slopes at around 300 meters above sea level. The calcareous clay soils contribute to the wine’s refined texture, aromatic precision and elegant structure. Harvesting is carried out with care to preserve Nebbiolo’s natural balance and freshness.
Vinification follows a traditional Barolo approach, with a long maceration on the skins to extract tannin, color and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for around two years in large Slovenian oak casks, followed by additional bottle ageing before release, allowing the wine to evolve without overt oak influence.
Food & Serving
This Barolo is a natural match for rich, savory dishes such as braised beef, veal shank, game, truffle pasta, mushroom risotto and aged hard cheeses. Serve at 16–18°C, and decant for at least 1–2 hours to let the aromas open and the tannins soften.
Producer
Poderi Marcarini is a family-run estate in La Morra with a history spanning six generations. The house is closely associated with classic, terroir-focused Barolo from some of the region’s most prestigious vineyards, including La Serra and Brunate. Known for elegance, balance and faithful expression of place, Marcarini has earned a strong reputation among lovers of traditional Piedmontese wine.
