Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Granbussia shows a luminous garnet core with brick-orange highlights at the rim, already hinting at its classic Nebbiolo character. The nose is complex and evolving: rose petals, dried violets and cherry liqueur intertwine with notes of tar, sweet tobacco, leather, anise, red currant, truffle and a subtle balsamic lift. On the palate, this is both authoritative and elegant, with a firm Barolo structure wrapped in beautifully ripe 2015 fruit. Flavors of sour cherry, blood orange and wild strawberry are layered with savory hints of licorice, dried herbs, cedar and iron-rich minerality. The tannins are fine-grained yet still assertive, balanced by fresh acidity that carries the wine through a very long, precise finish. While already impressive after a long decant, the 2015 Granbussia is built for the long haul and will reward patient cellaring for 20–30 years or more.

Production
Granbussia is sourced exclusively from the estate’s best parcels within the Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, primarily from the Romirasco, Cicala and Colonnello vineyards. These high-quality Nebbiolo sites sit on calcareous clay and marl soils, with excellent exposure and significant diurnal temperature shifts that help preserve aromatic intensity and structure. Grapes are hand-harvested at optimal ripeness, with meticulous bunch selection in the vineyard and again in the cellar. Fermentation follows a traditional approach, with extended maceration on the skins to extract color, tannin and complexity, before the wine is aged for several years in large Slavonian oak botti. After cask aging, Granbussia spends additional years maturing in bottle in the estate’s cellars prior to its limited release as a Riserva.

Food & Serving
This is a grand Barolo that shines alongside equally distinguished dishes. Pair the 2015 Granbussia with braised veal shank, roasted or grilled lamb, Piedmontese beef, game birds, wild mushroom risotto, tajarin with white truffle, or aged cheeses such as Parmigiano Reggiano or mature Pecorino. Serve at 16–18°C (60–64°F) in large Burgundy or Barolo glasses to allow the aromatics to unfold. Decanting is strongly recommended: 2–3 hours for current drinking, and even longer if opened in its youth, to soften the tannins and reveal the full spectrum of its bouquet.

Poderi Aldo Conterno is one of Barolo’s most revered estates, founded in 1969 by Aldo Conterno in Monforte d’Alba after he separated from the iconic Giacomo Conterno family winery. Aldo’s goal was to marry the depth and ageworthiness of traditional Barolo with a level of polish and purity that would appeal to modern wine lovers, all while remaining firmly rooted in the great crus of Bussia. Today the estate is run by Aldo’s sons, who continue to champion low yields, meticulous vineyard work and restrained, long aging in large oak casks. Granbussia is their flagship Barolo Riserva, produced only in exceptional vintages and widely regarded as one of the most important and collectible wines of the region.
