Description
Château Pavie is one of Saint-Émilion’s most celebrated names, offering a richly textured and deeply expressive Grand Cru Classé A wine from one of Bordeaux’s most prestigious right-bank estates. This 2008 Magnum format is especially appealing for collectors, as the larger bottle encourages a slower, more graceful evolution in the cellar.
Tasting Notes
Pavie 2008 typically shows a deep, concentrated ruby colour with impressive intensity in the glass. On the nose, expect layered aromas of black cherry, plum, graphite, tobacco, violet, and subtle oak spice, with the magnum format helping preserve freshness and aromatic lift.
The palate is full-bodied and powerful, with dense dark fruit, firm but polished tannins, and a long, structured finish marked by minerality and lingering spice. While already appealing with sufficient air, this vintage has excellent aging potential and can continue to develop complexity over many years.
Production
Château Pavie is situated on the limestone and clay slopes of Saint-Émilion, where well-drained terroir and excellent exposure contribute to the estate’s depth and precision. The vineyard is traditionally harvested with careful parcel selection, and vinification is focused on extracting ripe fruit, structure, and balance, with aging in oak barrels to add complexity and finesse.
Food & Serving
Best enjoyed with rich dishes such as beef tenderloin, lamb, duck breast, game birds, or truffle-based preparations. Serve at around 16–18°C, and decant for 1–2 hours if opening now, especially to allow the wine to fully reveal its aromatic breadth and texture.
Producer
Château Pavie has long been one of the flagship estates of Saint-Émilion and was elevated to Premier Grand Cru Classé A status, reflecting its outstanding reputation and quality. Under modern stewardship, the estate has become known for producing powerful, ageworthy wines that stand among the most recognized and sought-after on Bordeaux’s right bank.
