Occidental Pinot Noir Station Vineyard is a coastal California Pinot Noir that captures the cool-climate elegance of Sonoma’s far western edge. Crafted with the precision and finesse associated with Steve Kistler’s vision, it stands out for its pure red-fruit profile, lifted aromatics, and remarkable balance. The wine reflects a relatively recent but important chapter in California Pinot Noir, born from the belief that exceptional Burgundian-style wines can thrive along the Pacific coast.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this Pinot Noir typically shows a bright ruby hue with a translucent, refined appearance. The nose is expressive and pure, offering red raspberry, rose petals, and crushed strawberries, layered with subtle earthy tones that add depth and nuance. On the palate, it is strikingly balanced and delicately textured, with fresh acidity and gentle tannins framing the fruit rather than overpowering it. There is a sense of energy and clarity throughout, with enough structure to suggest graceful development in bottle. It is delicious now, but it should also gain complexity with short- to medium-term cellaring.

Production
The wine comes from Occidental’s coastal holdings in Sonoma County, an area shaped by cool Pacific breezes, marine influence, and a long, slow growing season that is ideal for Pinot Noir. These conditions help preserve acidity and encourage aromatic precision while allowing the fruit to ripen gradually and evenly. The wine is made entirely from free-run juice, a choice that contributes to its supple texture, purity of flavor, and overall finesse.

Food & Serving
Serve this Pinot Noir slightly chilled, ideally around 14–16°C, to preserve its freshness and aromatic lift. It pairs beautifully with duck breast, roast chicken, salmon, mushroom dishes, veal, and lightly seasoned pork, as well as earthy vegetarian plates. Decanting is optional; a brief aeration can help open the wine if enjoyed young, but it is not essential.
