Description

Occidental Bodega Headlands Vineyard Cuvée Elizabeth Pinot Noir 2019 is an exceptionally refined expression of California’s cool-climate Sonoma Coast. From a vineyard shaped by Pacific fog and maritime breezes, this single-vineyard Pinot Noir combines remarkable delicacy with depth, precision and a distinctive sense of place. It stands among the most elegant wines of Steve Kistler’s acclaimed Occidental project.

Tasting Notes
The wine displays a bright, translucent ruby colour. Its layered bouquet reveals ripe and wild red fruits—cherry, wild raspberry, pomegranate and forest berries—alongside rose petals, bergamot, subtle spice and a cool impression of sea-spray minerality. With air, the aromatics become increasingly complex, bringing together pure fruit, floral nuances and mineral freshness. On the palate, it is silky, precise and beautifully balanced. Vibrant red fruit is framed by delicate spice, oyster-shell-like mineral notes and lively acidity, while the fine-grained structure gives the wine impressive poise. Despite its concentration, the texture remains light and almost weightless, leading to a long, nuanced finish marked by purity and finesse. Already compelling, the 2019 has the structure and freshness to develop gracefully over the next decade or longer.

Production
Bodega Headlands Vineyard lies close to the Pacific Ocean on the cool Sonoma Coast, where persistent fog and ocean breezes moderate temperatures and allow Pinot Noir to ripen slowly. These maritime conditions favour wines with bright acidity, refined aromatics and exceptional finesse. The supplied information does not specify the harvesting or vinification methods, but the finished wine clearly reflects a careful focus on purity, balance and detailed terroir expression.

Food & Serving
This elegant Pinot Noir is a natural partner for roast duck, quail, veal and dishes featuring wild mushrooms, truffle or fragrant herbs. Serve lightly chilled at approximately 14–16°C. Decanting is not essential, but 30–60 minutes in a decanter—or simply allowing the wine to open in the glass—will reveal additional layers of floral fragrance, spice and mineral complexity.

Producer
Occidental is the Sonoma Coast project founded by Steve Kistler, whose work has helped establish the region as a source of world-class, cool-climate Pinot Noir. The wines are known for their restrained power, fine texture and precise expression of coastal vineyards. Cuvée Elizabeth from Bodega Headlands Vineyard exemplifies this approach, bringing together the distinctive maritime character of the site with a highly polished and uncompromising style.
