Description

Nicole Lamarche Monopole Grand Cru La Grande Rue 2022 is a rare and highly sought-after Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s most discreet yet illustrious Grand Cru vineyards. Nestled between La Tâche and Romanée-Conti in Vosne-Romanée, La Grande Rue is a monopole entirely owned and farmed by the Lamarche family, giving this wine a uniquely pure and unblended expression of its site. The 2022 vintage combines the domaine’s hallmark finesse with the natural richness of a warm, generous year, resulting in a wine of both immediate appeal and profound aging potential.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2022 La Grande Rue shows a luminous, deep garnet core with translucent ruby edges, hinting at both concentration and finesse. The nose opens slowly and seductively, with layers of wild strawberry, black cherry, and raspberry coulis woven together with rose petals, violets, and a whisper of peony. With air, more complex notes emerge: warm spice box, star anise, sandalwood, fine black tea, and a subtle, graphite-like minerality that is very Vosne-Romanée. On the palate, the wine is precise and silken, with a wonderfully refined texture that glides rather than grips. Pure red and black berry fruit is framed by ultra-fine tannins and a vibrant yet ripe acidity that keeps everything fresh and lifted. Flavors of cherry, red plum, and cranberry are layered with savory undertones of forest floor, truffle, and delicate oak spice, leading into a long, perfumed finish that echoes with floral and mineral notes. Still youthful and tightly coiled, this 2022 Grand Cru has the structure and balance to age gracefully for 15–25 years, gaining in complexity, depth, and aromatic nuance over time.

Production
La Grande Rue is a narrow strip of Grand Cru vines at the heart of Vosne-Romanée, sitting on classic Burgundian limestone and clay with a high proportion of fine, well-draining soils that naturally limit yields and accentuate finesse. Farmed with great care and increasing focus on sustainable, low-intervention practices, the vines are tended by hand and harvested manually at optimal ripeness to preserve aromatic delicacy and natural acidity. In the cellar, Nicole Lamarche favors gentle, minimalist winemaking: careful sorting of the grapes, a controlled fermentation with partial whole-cluster inclusion (depending on the vintage), and a sensitive extraction to maintain elegance over power. The wine is then aged in French oak barrels—typically with a restrained proportion of new oak—to add subtle structure and complexity without overwhelming the purity of fruit and terroir signature.

Food & Serving
This Grand Cru Pinot Noir is best showcased alongside refined, nuanced dishes that mirror its elegance and depth. Think roast duck with cherries, pigeon or quail, veal loin with morels, slow-roasted lamb, or delicately sauced game birds; it also sings with truffled dishes, mushroom-based cuisine, and aged, semi-soft cheeses like Époisses or Brillat-Savarin. Serve at 15–16°C (59–61°F) to highlight its aromatics and freshness. In its youth, decant gently for 1–2 hours to help the wine unfold; as it matures, a shorter decant (30–45 minutes) or careful serving directly from the bottle will be enough to reveal its layered complexity.

Producer
The Lamarche family has been rooted in Vosne-Romanée for generations, gradually assembling a mosaic of top vineyards culminating in sole ownership (monopole) of La Grande Rue, which was officially elevated to Grand Cru status in 1992. Today, the domaine is led by Nicole Lamarche, who has brought a more refined, terroir-driven philosophy to the wines, emphasizing precision, elegance, and transparency of site. Under her guidance, the property has gained a strong following among Burgundy enthusiasts for its increasingly ethereal style and improved vineyard management, placing Nicole Lamarche firmly among the modern standard-bearers of Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir and making La Grande Rue one of the most compelling, if still somewhat under-the-radar, Grand Crus of Burgundy.
