Description

Monyok Tokaji 3 Puttonyos Aszú 2008 is a beautifully balanced Hungarian dessert wine from the legendary Tokaj-Hegyalja region, crafted from the classic trio of Furmint, Hárslevelű, and Moscato Bianco/Moscato Reale. With its inviting sweetness, bright acidity, and unmistakable Tokaji character, it offers a refined introduction to one of the world’s most historic sweet wine styles.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, it typically shows a deep golden to amber hue, reflecting both concentration and the maturity of the 2008 vintage. The nose is expressive and layered, with notes of honey, apricot, candied citrus, dried peach, orange peel, and floral nuances, often followed by a subtle saffron or botrytis-driven complexity. On the palate, the wine is lush and concentrated, yet lifted by the lively acidity that makes Tokaji Aszú so compelling. Flavors of ripe stone fruit, marmalade, acacia honey, and sweet spice unfold in a long, polished finish. Thanks to its structure and freshness, it should continue to develop gracefully for many years, gaining more depth and complexity with bottle age.

Production
Produced in Tokaj-Hegyalja, a region known for its volcanic soils, cool climate, and autumn mists that encourage noble rot, this wine is shaped by a terroir uniquely suited to Aszú production. The grapes are traditionally harvested by hand, with botrytized berries selected carefully to achieve the wine’s characteristic richness and precision. Vinification follows the classic Tokaji Aszú tradition, where the selected aszú berries are macerated with base wine to extract sweetness, aroma, and texture, resulting in a wine of notable concentration and balance. The 3 Puttonyos designation indicates a gentler sweetness level than the highest categories, making the wine elegant, approachable, and wonderfully food-friendly.

Food & Serving
This wine pairs beautifully with fruit tarts, crème brûlée, blue cheese, foie gras, almond-based desserts, and dishes featuring dried apricot or citrus. It is best served lightly chilled, around 10–12°C, and does not usually require decanting, though a brief aeration can help open up its aromatics if desired.

Producer
Monyok is part of the respected Tokaj wine landscape, contributing to the region’s long-standing reputation for producing world-class sweet wines. While detailed historical information is limited here, the producer is associated with the traditional Tokaji style and the heritage of a region that has been celebrated for centuries as one of Europe’s great wine treasures.
