Description

Château Montrose 1999 is a classic Saint-Estèphe from one of Bordeaux’s most respected estates, offering the structure, depth, and longevity that have made this Second Growth château so sought after. From a celebrated historic property on Bordeaux’s Left Bank, it reflects the power and refinement that define Montrose at its best.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, this vintage typically shows a deep garnet color with some developing brick tones at the rim. The nose is layered and mature, opening with blackcurrant, dried plum, cedar, tobacco, and earthy notes, alongside hints of leather and graphite. On the palate, it is firm and structured, with Saint-Estèphe’s signature backbone of tannin and mineral drive supporting dark fruit, savory spice, and a touch of iron-like freshness. The finish is long and composed, and while it may still reward further cellaring, it is now entering an excellent drinking window for those who enjoy mature Bordeaux.

Production
Grown in the gravelly, well-drained soils of Saint-Estèphe, Château Montrose benefits from a terroir that is particularly well suited to Cabernet Sauvignon, with the nearby Gironde helping to moderate the climate. The grapes are harvested with careful parcel selection, and vinification is carried out in the traditional Bordeaux style to preserve structure, freshness, and complexity.

Food & Serving
Best served at 16–18°C, this wine pairs beautifully with roast lamb, beef tenderloin, entrecôte, game, duck breast, and dishes with mushrooms or truffle. Decanting for 1–2 hours is recommended if the bottle is opened now, especially to allow the aromas of a mature vintage to fully unfold.
