Description

Milénico MILÉNICO Ribera del Duero 2015 is a concentrated, ageworthy Tempranillo from one of Spain’s most prestigious red wine regions. Crafted by Bodega y Viñedos Milénico as their higher-tier cuvée, this wine is deliberately released with some bottle age to showcase its evolving complexity. It’s a thoughtful choice for drinkers who enjoy powerful Ribera del Duero reds with the structure to mature gracefully.

Tasting Notes
In the glass, the 2015 Milénico shows a deep, almost opaque purplish ruby hue, with slow, dense legs that hint at its extract and concentration. The nose is intense and layered: ripe morello cherries and dried fruit are wrapped in aromas of brownie batter and cocoa, sweet pipe tobacco, and a subtle note of Earl Grey tea. Savory nuances of black olive and smoky bacon emerge with air, underscoring its complexity. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, richly textured Ribera with impressive depth. The twelve months in small oak barrels have polished the tannins into a fine, velvety sheath that coats the mouth like cool satin. Dark cherry and plum fruit sit at the core, supported by notes of dried fig, baking chocolate, tobacco leaf, and a faint hint of black tea and spice. A firm mineral backbone and fresh acidity keep the wine lively and balanced, promising several more years of positive development. While already enjoyable, this 2015 has clear aging potential and should evolve beautifully over the next 5–10 years, gaining even more nuance and tertiary complexity.

Production
Milénico MILÉNICO hails from high-altitude vineyards in Ribera del Duero, where Tempranillo (known locally as Tinto Fino) thrives on poor, stony soils with limestone and clay that naturally limit yields and intensify flavor. The continental climate, marked by hot days and cool nights, helps preserve acidity and aromatics in the grapes. Harvest is typically carried out by hand to ensure careful selection and optimal ripeness at the vineyard. In the cellar, the wine is vinified in a traditional yet precise manner: gentle extraction during fermentation to capture color, aroma, and fine tannins without harshness, followed by twelve months of maturation in small oak barrels. This barrel aging, combined with further bottle rest, allows the wine’s fruit, spice, and mineral elements to knit together into a harmonious whole.

Food & Serving
This structured Ribera del Duero is a natural partner for richly flavored dishes. Think grilled or roasted lamb, Iberian pork, beef short ribs, game meats, or slow-cooked stews, as well as charcuterie and aged hard cheeses like Manchego or Comté. Earthy dishes featuring mushrooms, roasted root vegetables, or lentils also complement its savory undertones. Serve at around 16–18°C (60–64°F) to highlight both freshness and depth. Decanting for 1–2 hours before serving is recommended, especially in its youth, to allow the aromatics to fully open and the tannins to soften.

Producer
Bodega y Viñedos Milénico is a boutique producer in Ribera del Duero, dedicated to expressing the character of Tempranillo from carefully chosen vineyard sites. Working on a smaller scale allows the estate to focus on meticulous vineyard management and thoughtful, low-intervention winemaking. Within the region, Milénico is part of a new generation of quality-focused producers that balance tradition—hand harvesting, respectful oak use—with a precise, modern understanding of ripeness and structure. Their Milénico bottling sits at the top of the range, intended to be a serious, cellar-worthy interpretation of Ribera del Duero, and has helped cement the winery’s reputation among enthusiasts seeking distinctive, ageworthy Spanish reds.
