Mesa Carignano del Sulcis Buio 2025

Mesa Buio is a still red wine from Sardinia’s Sulcis region, offering a fresh, expressive take on Carignano. Founded in 2004, Cantina Mesa brings the area’s long-standing grape-growing tradition together with a gentle approach to winemaking.

Tasting Notes
The nose opens with ripe red fruit, followed by notes of geranium and black pepper, with subtle mineral nuances. On the palate, a spicy introduction gives way to an enveloping texture, well-integrated sweet tannins and a lingering finish with pleasant balsamic notes. No specific ageing potential is provided.

Production
The Carignano grapes come from southwestern Sardinia, where warm Mediterranean summers are moderated by the Mistral and winter rainfall is limited. Vines grow in sandy and calcareous clay soils rich in stones. Grapes are handled gently using gravity rather than mechanical pumping, then undergo eight days of temperature-controlled skin maceration. After malolactic fermentation, the wine matures for six months in concrete tanks, followed by bottle ageing.

Cantina Mesa was founded in 2004 from the vision of Gavino Sanna, with a focus on expressing the character of Sardinia and its distinctive sandy soils. Under winemaker Stefano Cova, the winery favours gentle handling, including gravity filling and avoiding mechanical pumps, to preserve the fruit’s character and offer a faithful interpretation of Sulcis.
